A 62ft 2008 Barry Hawkins 4 berth traditional stern narrowboat.
A superbly appointed modern narrowboat with more than a nod to the boating traditions of the past. A feature of Venus is the mid-mounted original 1966 Gardner engine, which was rebuilt in 2008. Not only does this make it quieter at the helm but the sometimes difficult access normally associated with a traditional stern boat is completely eliminated.
The engine is located in a dedicated room with side hatches to both sides. Contained within the engine room are the electrical controls and all batteries. It also makes for an excellent wet locker and drying space.
The interior of the boat is in a light Ash giving a bright feel throughout. Entering from the rear deck is a classic 'Boatman's cabin', beautifully decorated in classic 'Roses & Castles' style with sleeping accommodation to one side. 3 colourful painted Buckby cans are included in the sale and add to the traditional feel of this cabin.
Passing through and out of the impressive engine room, a walk-through bathroom contains a shower cubicle with glass screen, vanity unit with handbasin, heated towel-rail and toilet.
Next to the bathroom is a spacious double bedroom with full height wardrobe, drawers, central heating radiator and a cross-bed.
The galley is custom built in light wood and features various cupboards and drawers. A Belfast type ceramic sink is recessed into the worktop. The gas oven/grill is fitted into a tall cupboard/drawer unit and there is a separate gas hob on the worktop. In another cupboard unit to one side is a washing machine and a 12v fridge. A side hatch features here together with a Houdini hatch overhead.
The saloon contains various shelves and cupboards with decorative carving on the wall panels. Presently furnished with easy chairs and footstools, there is a solid fuel stove in one corner and a tv cabinet in the other (tv included in the sale).
Steps lead up to the large bow deck.
Of particular note to the boating enthusiast is the 15mm thickness of the base, and the inclusion of a hydraulic bow thruster.
